Who Are You Following? | Apprenticeship, Not Just Belief

Jan 11, 2026    Pastor Rod Hidalgo

At the start of a new year, many of us think about goals, changes, and fresh starts. But before asking what we want to do next, this message invites us to ask a deeper question: Who are you following?

In this message from our Apprenticeship series, we explore the biblical invitation Jesus gave again and again: “Follow me.” Not as a metaphor, but as a call to apprenticeship—a way of life shaped by being with Jesus, becoming like Him, and doing what He did.

Everyone is following someone or something. The real question isn’t whether we are disciples, but who or what is discipling us. Our schedules, priorities, spending, reactions, and relationships all reveal who is truly leading our lives.

Drawing from the Gospels, we see that following Jesus was never about admiration or agreement alone. It was about imitation, practice, and transformation. Jesus didn’t invite people to observe Him from a distance—He invited them to reorder their lives around Him.

This message challenges us to:

Examine who is shaping our daily rhythms

Recognize how culture disciples us without us noticing

Rediscover following Jesus as a whole-life practice

Say yes to Jesus not only as Savior, but as Teacher and Lord

Following Jesus isn’t about perfection—it’s about direction.

It’s not about having everything figured out—it’s about choosing who leads.

The invitation is still open.

The question remains the same: Who are you following?
