Church Of Smyrna
What does Jesus say to His Church in the middle of suffering?
In Revelation 2:8–11, Jesus speaks to the church in Smyrna—a church facing affliction, poverty, persecution, and uncertainty. Yet in the middle of their suffering, Jesus reminds them of a powerful truth:
“I know your afflictions and your poverty—yet you are rich!”
Jesus sees what His people are walking through. He knows our struggles, our pressure, and our pain. And while He never promises us a life without difficulty, He calls us to remain faithful and reminds us not to be afraid.
Whatever your “thlipsis”—your affliction, distress, pressure, or hardship—may look like today, Jesus knows.
The One who is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again, is still faithful. Our present circumstances are not our eternal reality. In Christ, we have the promise of life.
Do not be afraid.
Be faithful.
Jesus gives life.
